DIGITAL CORE
Sonya Pemberton said:
Great soft puppets sequence – original and fresh idea, well executed. Loved the start and the sense of the story building. Virus being eradicated by AI characters was great, waiting to see if humanity survived. The style of final AI voice-over narration at the end didn’t quite work for me, I felt it gave too much away and was an abrupt change of style. That said, the idea of humanity touching the ‘digital core’ of AI was compelling.

Sinister yet delicate, a sensual gripping narrative that left a strong message that resonates with your very core, the film left its mark as all good films do

If not an entirely original idea, still a nice play on the concept of humans being the virus that needs eradicating. Solid production values throughout and a haunting score.
HANDMADE

Two sisters on the road to spread their mothers ashes; a memory being interrogated in the future. Emotionally powerful human story, well scripted, acted and shot, morphs into a sci-fi ‘memory mining’ tale. Very well executed – great acting, design, editing. Intriguing.

Shot like a true indie film, raw, powerful, we have greatness in the making

Intriguing story. Wanted to see the story fleshed out and know more about the characters.

Clever, funny and totally satisfying scammer story. The payoff was cool. Great use of design, tech interface was believable. Gets better on multiple views.

Interesting and funny perspective to our hacking society and the outcome to be had with economics of society and our humanity to boot
THE CROWD

Exceptional understated performances by ‘Dr Lisa’ and ‘Alan’ nailed this for me. Great script, design, music, cinematography and production values; takes the popular concept of AI/ human interaction/interface and makes it original, classy and resonant. I was fully invested and wanted to know more; I wanted the bigger, longer story. Bring on the feature film!

Beautifully executed, draws you in immediately with the lighting and effects before leaving you encapsulated with more questions

Impressive production values across the board, from cinematography, lighting, performances and a well judged score. Nice twist too.
RED WEB

The floating cube was a delightful idea. Great design and execution. Moved into farce when characters starting attacking the cube, the logic didn’t hold quite as well for me there. But really nice payoff at end.

Excellent skin tones with a hilarious dynamic between the two actors, a compelling yet perplexing plot that endearingly shows the charm of human relationships – a treat within the genre
THE SHUT DOWN
Sonya Pemberton said:
Very well shot, exceptional production design – echoes of Blade Runner. Rat eating sequence was disgustingly good. The three-faced watch was amazing. This AI taking over the world story has been created with real flair and skill. My only quibble; this kind of dystopian AI story feels horrifyingly familiar, so I was hoping for a new twist, a new more surprising ending (a hard ask in 24 hours!) Exceptional filmmaking on show here.

Cinematically lit in parts akin to peaky blinder, dark hues, grand but subtle highlights
BROTHERS KEEPER
Sonya Pemberton said:
Great location, extremely well shot and fabulous steam-punk styled design. Sound design was terrific but I found it hard to understand the AI voice of ‘Luna’, required several viewings to follow what was happening. The emotional impact of the ending didn’t quite work for me: I wanted to better appreciate that the main character was making a decision to abandon ship, with the device holding her brother’s data. Amazingly well made, especially in just 48 hours. ##

A SCI FI classic, bravo! The genre encapsulated in every possible way, very well done
HERE IT ENDS

Docu-style approach where a band, seeking a new sound, accidentally triggers alien possession. Original, funny, clever, very well executed. Delightfully daft.

HILARIOUS GENUIS, top marks for originality, that would inspire Simon Pegg and Nick Frost

Inspired and utterly bonkers. Can’t wait for the comedy series – “Bands in Space”

I couldn’t help think ‘Blair Witch crossed with Zombies and Nano-Tech’ – a classic genre-style film. Really nice central performance, especially at the start and build. Personally, I preferred the sequences with implied threat – when we couldn’t see the enemy in any detail. And why didn’t she leave when she could! Classic indeed. Great use of camera and sound. Terrific achievement in just 48 hours filmmaking.

Shock factor, was a nicely done revival for the senses since 28 days later with a touch of the Blair Witch project
AN ADULT HUMAN

Anxious palaeontologist gets infected with alien bug. An original, surprising, clever film – the live stream, live chat, crowd funding etc, delivered a contemporary, fresh and occasionally funny feel. Very well scripted, acted and executed.

Excellent casting, intriguing by design, with the use of the phone and the narrative behind it, the joyful moments pull you in and leave you wanting more with a classic cliffhanger, reminded me of Cloverfield
